Whale Fall Ferrofluid Speaker
Sound you can watch gather, break and rise.
Each instrument turns an audio signal into movement you can watch. Films of both objects in a listening room appear here as they are released by the studio.

A pool of liquid metal, choreographed by sound.
MERIDIAN is a small studio working at the intersection of acoustics, magnetism and industrial design. Each object begins as a question about what a material can be made to do — and ends as something you cannot quite stop watching.
Nothing here is decorative. The movement is the product. The silence between the notes is engineered.
Ferrofluid, borosilicate glass, machined aluminium. Materials chosen for how they behave, not how they photograph.
Every instrument translates an invisible signal into physical movement — a waveform you can watch from across the room.
Serviceable assemblies, honest tolerances, replaceable parts. Objects designed for a decade, not a season.
Materials, mechanics and specifications, taken from the studio's own notes on each object.
Ferrofluid Instruments
Reactive by design
The fluid responds to the audio signal directly — tides at the low end, sharp standing spikes in the highs.
A sealed instrument
The magnetic medium sits inside a sealed glass chamber. Nothing to top up, nothing to spill, nothing to tune by hand.
Made to be watched
Silhouetted against a wall or lit from one side, the movement is legible from across a room.

Kinetic Objects
Listens to the room
Sound in the space moves the liquid — no app, no pairing, no preset patterns.
Sculpture at rest
When the room goes quiet the surface settles into a slow, breathing rhythm.
A low, calm profile
Designed to sit at table height and be read from a seated position.
